Muslims Should Not Fear Islamaphobia Backlash In Wake Of Sydney Siege , As Australians Launch Campaign ' ILLRIDEWITHYOU' On Social Media !
A lone gunman reported to take people hostage in the early hours of today, in a Lindt Chocalat Cafe in Sydney, Australia has created moral panic in the country. There are claims that he ordered two female hostages to put their arms up in the air as well as displaying a black jihadi flag in the window of the cafe.
An enormous police operation is underway and about 5 people out of the 15 have beeb thought to have escaped. It is unclear whether or not they were released.
Prime minsiter Tony Abbott has been reported to tell the people of Sydney to "go about their business as usual". He is also reported to say that even now, it is particularly hard to figure out whether this act was politically motivated or not, although there is some indication.
It could be argued some took this literally. The Daily Mail online posted pictures of people taking selfies in a time of such tragedy, smiling at the camera, and ensuring they got TV crews and equipment into the background of their picture. I don't think people realise safety is at stake with more unpredictable occurrences and radicalised believers. This is certainly no time to gain popularity through likes and comments on Instagram and Twitter.

Ridiculous isn't it?
But I am glad to tell you that some are taking it seriously, with Muslims in Australia fearing another Islamaphobia backlash, Non-muslims have taken the initiative to unite with Muslims and make them feel safe and wanted.
Australian radio stations took calls from listeners who said they were too scared to leave their homes and go on public transport. As a result of this, people, I will now call 'Sydney Samaritans' offered to ride with Muslims for protection against harm.
Thousands are now tweeting 'I'll Ride With You' in a bid to offer social support to Muslims, by meeting up with them in their local stations and riding with them during their journeys.

I think we have come a long way globally, in establishing the fact that Muslims believe in kindness, respect and dignity, not murder, suicide bombs and oppression. With so much in the media about terrorism and linking it so closely to Islam, there is concern with how much this is effecting people's attitudes towards Muslims and Islam and fuelling their ignorance .
Nowhere in Islam does it teach us to harm others, hold them hostage or kill. It teaches us against all evil. So do not blame the religion or its beliers, but the perpetrator.
