Terrorism, war, poverty and the ongoing numerous battles our fellow species are experiencing all over the world are very often motivating factors for us wanting to change the world. You know, you wake up one morning, thinking 'I'd like to make a positive change in the world, I want to reduce the amount of poor people in my country, I'm going to start donating more'. Well, I don't know about you, but I've had this thought plenty of times. But with all the horror that is going on around in the world and being sidetracked by these worldly issues, one can easily forget that if we do not make swift and smooth efforts to save our planet, then we won't even have scope to address these issues and solve them. What is the good in being politically active if were not going to have a planet to survive in soon?
Seriously, though. I am now 22 years of age, and I remember how concerned I was at the age of about 12 in regards to climate change and global warming. Only about a week ago, this concern re-ignited and I was genuinely contemplating the collective ignorance of human beings about where they are residing and the bleak/promising future for planet Earth.
The UN's global climate change summit in Paris has been significant in rallying together some of the most influential and powerful countries of our time, in a bid to reduce carbon emissions. With the U.S, China and India bearing the responsibility of making up an estimated 40% global carbon emissions according to The Guardian, they are now in charge of working together to create a future of sustainable energy.
The big three countries - which include the U.S, China and India will have to adopt innovative and efficient strategies to combat global warming. If they are successful, they can hopefully bridge the gap between developing and developed countries.
Being pro-active is the first step in tackling global warming, there are definitely solutions we can all get involved in. Every one of us alive right now is responsible for the planet we create and live in.Simple things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint include lessening our consumption of dairy products and meat, due to the greenhouse gas methane that these food products emit. In addition, rather than being picky with what food you eat, you can be even more helpful by not wasting food, so that means making the most of leftovers and giving extra surplus food to the homeless or to your pets! Also, decreasing our trips abroad, as the fuel from planes emit such gases which are all heating up our poor planet. This heat is being contained within our planet, which is harming our atmosphere and having a direct impact on weather and seasons globally.
We might have a long way to go, but my fellow brothers and sisters, local and global, I know we can reduce carbon emissions and live in a healthy and harmonious environment. Lets look after the beautiful planet we live on, its not like we can go live on Mars as of yet!
