Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday, banning immigrants from seven Muslim countries: Syria,Sudan,Libya,Yemen,Somalia,Iraq and Iran. No less than a day later, chaos has emerged as a result of this grave crime against humanity. How have we regressed so much as a society that we now live in a time where someone like Trump can become president of the U.S? And how can such a high flying ex-business man lack the brains to come up with a far better strategy to combat terrorism, than to bully the entire religion of Islam?
When I was younger, my dad used to joke and tell us that one day the British would ship us "..back to where we came from". It seemed funny and far-fetched then, not so much now.
I keep saying over and over again, what a time to be Muslim. A few hours ago I was ranting, saying if May failed to produce an official statement/speech condemning Trump's Muslim ban, then I would no longer identify as being 'British'. How can I, when my very being .. the first layer of my hybrid identity - being a Muslim first and foremost is looked down upon and seen as such a threat?
Firstly, I'd like to express my anger at the people that elected Trump. We live in an information age, ignorance is not bliss, but rather ignorance is evil. America has survived a history of slavery, segregation laws and civil war - yet White supremacy still exists. I cannot fathom how distasteful and Islamophobic people can be that they deem it acceptable to deny entry to vulnerable Muslim refugees fleeing war and terror. I don't see anyone deciding it is either necessary or acceptable to deny White supremacists entry to the U.S? The biggest threat to the U.S is the availability of guns and the laws surrounding this in addition to corrupt and institutionally racist police officers, yet refugees are the ones being painted as monsters. Pathetic.
What Trump is failing to understand - is his immigration policy is ineffective. He is only going to make Muslims more vulnerable to radicalisation, by scapegoating Muslims for every ill in society. If there is the slightest chance that he, Mr Donald Trump will read this .. then this is a message to you : you are the real terrorist, not Muslims. You are the driving force behind the growing hatred towards Muslims and the mastermind criminal who has abused women in a number of ways. But yet you want to pull the red card on Muslims. We are amongst the most peaceful human beings on the face of the planet. There is nothing Islamic about Islamic state - Islam forbids murder. In Chapter no.5, verse 32 in the Qur'an it says, "Whoever kills a person unjustly it is as though he has killed all mankind". How then can one argue that beheadings and other atrocities conducted by ISIS are reflective of Islam and Muslims?
A few hours ago, I was fuming with anger at Theresa May's refusal to condemn Trump's Muslim ban. However, just before the clock struck 1am, No.10 Downing street have come up with a new line. No.10 said "Immigration policy in the United States is a matter for the government for the United States, just the same as immigration policy for this country should be set by our government. But we do not agree with this kind of approach and it is not one we will be taking. We are studying this new executive order to see what it means and what legal effects are, and in particular what the consequences are for UK nationals. If there is any impact on UK nationals then clearly we will make representations to the US government about that."
Why did it take so long for May to express her disagreement with Trump.?! No matter how 'special' the relationship is/should be between May and Trump .. being honest and standing up for the right thing and against evil for the greater good is always the best thing. It is embracing and deeply upsetting that a few hours ago, May declined to comment in detail, due to the risk of sabotaging trade deals with the U.S? Had her fellow Conservative MP Nadhim Zahawi facing the likelihood of being banned from the U.S because of his birth in Iraq not been pulled up, I'm sceptical that May would have been willing to turn her back on her own country.
In response to Trump's executive order, the Iranian government says it will ban U.S citizens from entering its country. This may just serve as a wake up call to Trump, that it is not only he that can twist ropes. Within hours, the world witnessed what refuge families from each of the six Muslim countries he banned immigration from, underwent. People were denied entry to the U.S, meaning they were unable to visit their family. Then you have the innocent refugees that are desperate for warmth and security. What ever happened to all lives matter? Seems like Muslims are falling through the net ..
See, I had hopes and dreams of one day going to settle in America and really live the American dream. That dream is now over for me, for as long as Trump is president of the U.S.
